AIPAD

Friday was AIPAD day in New York City, which means a lot of photographers and gallery and publishing people all in one room. It's an odd thing. I don't know many people in this world—though I ran some folks from a class I took!—so it's really just to make you understand as a photographer that there are gazillions of people on the business end of the art photography world. It can feel a bit overwhelming.

Emmet Gowin

A highlight of my year was to see Emmet Gowin speak at Pace Gallery on the Friday of AIPAD. It feels as though he is a fulcrum for all of photographic history with his stories of Harry Callahan and Edward Steichen. His deep roots, love and compassion show in his photographs as well as words.

See this piece by Janelle Lynch (one of my teachers this year) in LensCulture about the work he discussed at Pace and the book.
